The Future of Rural Health Care in Post-Pandemic Canada

People living in remote, rural and Indigenous Canada have worse health status and limited access to health care when compared to their urban counterparts. The Covid-19 pandemic brought into sharp focus pre-existing inequities and disparities, emphasized the importance of local self-sufficiency and resources, and highlighted the potential for enhanced communication technology-based services including on-line learning and tele-health. This lecture will explore the future for Canadian Rural Health Care, including rural health service delivery models, rural health workforce recruitment and retention, and opportunities for long-lasting improvements in the health and wellbeing of rural and Indigenous Canadians.

Learning objectives:
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
1)  Describe the challenges and opportunities of Rural Health Care in Canada.
2)  Present Canadian and global examples of innovations in Rural Health.
3)  Outline opportunities for improving access to and quality of health care for Rural Canadians.
